Privacy policy

Shin Oak Gears ("we", "us") sells snake gaiters and protective outdoor gear online. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. We have written it in plain English because a privacy policy nobody can read is not really a privacy policy.

What we collect. When you buy something: your name, email address, shipping address, billing address, phone number if you provide one, and what you ordered. When you browse: standard technical information such as your IP address, device and browser type, pages viewed, and how you arrived. If you contact us: whatever you put in your message.

What we never see. Your full card number never reaches us. Card payments are processed directly by Shopify Payments, and we only ever see the last four digits and the card type.

Why we collect it. To take your order, ship it, tell you where it is, handle returns and refunds, answer your emails, keep the store secure and working, and understand which products and pages people actually use. If you tick the box at checkout, we also email you about new products and offers. That box is optional and unticking it changes nothing about your order.

Who we share it with. Only the companies that make your order happen: Shopify, which runs our store and processes payments; our fulfilment partner and the warehouse that packs your order; and the shipping carrier that delivers it. Each gets only what they need to do their part. We also use standard website analytics.

We do not sell your personal information. We have not, and we will not. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights, or as part of a business sale, in which case your information would move under the same protections.

Cookies and Do Not Track. Our store uses cookies: some are essential (keeping your cart, keeping you logged in, security) and some help us understand traffic. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though the store may not work properly without the essential ones. Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal. There is no agreed industry standard for how to respond to it, and our store does not currently alter its behaviour when it receives one. We do not track you across other companies’ websites for advertising, and we do not allow third parties to collect personal information about your activity across different sites through our store.

How long we keep it. Order records are kept for as long as tax and accounting rules require, currently six years. Marketing contacts are kept until you unsubscribe. Support emails are kept while they are useful and then deleted.

Your rights. Whatever country you are in, you can ask us to: tell you what we hold about you, correct anything wrong, delete it, send you a copy, or stop marketing to you. If you are in California, that includes the right to know what we collect and to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information, and we do not sell it in the first place. If you are in the UK or EU, your UK GDPR and GDPR rights apply in full. To exercise any of these, email info@shinoakgears.com. We respond within 30 days and we do not charge for it.

Children. Our store is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.

Security. We use Shopify’s hosted platform, which encrypts data in transit and handles payments to PCI DSS standards. No system is perfectly secure, but we do not store card details ourselves, which removes the biggest risk entirely.

Where we operate. Shin Oak Gears is operated from the United Kingdom and ships to customers in the United States. Your information may therefore be processed in both, under the protections described here.

Changes. If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. Material changes will be announced on this page.
